Office and commercial building with a mid-century modern design in Cologne’s banking district

Tunisstraße 29 | 50667 Köln

The listed office building at Tunisstrasse 29/Engasse 3 is a mid-century modern design classic in the midst of one of Cologne’s most attractive office locations – the banking district in Old Town North (Altstadt-Nord). Here in the centre of the cathedral city, the building boasts ultra-modern office space in an identity-creating design.

Hub,
economic power
and city of the future

Cologne is a real magnet for people and companies. With one million inhabitants, the cathedral city is Germany’s fourth largest metropolis and third largest industrial region. More than 3,000 international companies have headquarters here. They all appreciate the central location and the excellent connections to the metropolitan region.

From the main railway station, it takes less than an hour to reach three major airports: Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. The city is also one of the largest railway hubs in Europe: Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, London, Berlin – the continent’s capitals can be reached quickly and conveniently. Six motorways ensure that the cathedral city is also easily accessible by car.

There are 17 million potential customers living within a radius of less than 100 kilometres. So it’s no wonder that leading companies from a wide variety of industries have discovered Cologne for themselves. With more than 100,000 students, the nineteen local universities and colleges provide a qualified young workforce.

The listed office building on the corner of Tunisstrasse and Engegasse is centrally located just a seven-minute walk from the main railway station in the Old Town banking district. This former headquarters of Herstatt Bank, dating from 1962–1964, was extensively renovated in 2017.

Design classic
with bright prospects

The listed office building was built in 1962–1964 according to plans by the renowned Berlin architectural firm Sobotka and Müller as the headquarters of the short-lived Herstatt Bank. The building quickly became a fixture in Cologne’s banking district. In 2017, the design classic was renovated in close coordination with the listed building authorities. Modern working environments with contemporary space layouts were created. The building materials and technology also meet the highest standards. What sets it apart: The rooms on the upper floors were elaborately designed in a mid-century modern style. The same applies to the prestigious reception area. And then there is the roof terrace with an impressive view of Cologne Cathedral.

Mid-century modern
flair and future vision

Floor-to-ceiling doors, glass partitions with stainless steel frames, marble, walnut, brass fittings – the rooms on the top three storeys exude 60s flair. Yet the reorganisation of the floor plans implemented in 2017 took place with an eye toward the future.

Closed and open-plan workspaces alternate with areas to withdraw. Meeting areas, conference rooms and telephone pods are cleverly integrated into the interior design. Of course, the rooms also allow for individual adjustments – open-plan solutions are just as conceivable as individual offices.

More space for good business

The building offers flexible office space on six floors with modern building technology and high-quality fittings. The office floors can be freely divided into individual, combined and open-plan offices. Of course, it is also possible to create meeting and conference rooms, as well as quiet areas. The two basement levels comprise storage and archive space. There is also bicycle parking with showers and lockers. The building is accessible from the prestigious reception area via a spacious staircase and two lifts. Another special feature on the building’s 7th floor is a large roof terrace with an impressive view of Cologne’s Old Town and the cathedral.
