Just a short walk from the Gänsemarkt square lies a vintage office building of Hanseatic style—a so called Kontorhaus—at ABC-Strasse 47.
The prestigious, listed brick building from 1898/99 was comprehensively modernised in 1991/92 and today offers high-end office units in an attractive central location. Everything that makes life in Hamburg worth living is available in the immediate vicinity.
The Hanseatic city of Hamburg reliably makes the list of Germany’s leading business locations. The port, the publishing and logistics industry, creative media sector, trade and manufacturing – all of these define the city’s identity as much as its proverbial traits of Hanseatic restraint and honest trading.
Plus: The port city keeps growing. Its demographics have been showing steady growth for years. In fact, Hamburg is now the metropolis with the youngest population nationwide.
Nowhere else will you find the same blend of tradition and innovation, of past and present, as in the inner city of Hamburg which—unsurprisingly—comprises both an old (Altstadt) and a new (Neustadt) part.
Here, between Gänsemarkt, Hohe Bleichen and ABC-Strasse, the streetscape is defined by the unusual coexistence of historical period buildings and modern glass-and-steel structures. Homes and businesses, stores and restaurants, offices and leisure venues together create a vibrant and exciting urban atmosphere with a high quality of stay. Right in the middle of it: The venerable Kontorhaus office building on ABC-Strasse.
The office building at ABC-Strasse 47 is looking back on a long past. Originally built as a poorhouse, it went on to become the seat of Hamburg’s social security authority. In the years 1991/92, the house with its impressive brick façade, now under heritage protection, was restructured into a state-of-the-art office building while also being thoroughly refurbished and modernised.
Today, the office building offers flexible and bespoke layout options on four above-ground floors for corporate tenants. The high ceilings and expansive wood-frame windows typical of such buildings create a loft ambience very much en vogue.
The listed office building offers flexible offices of vintage charm and modern specification.

ABC-Strasse counts among Hamburg’s oldest streets on record. It was first mentioned 1620, earlier than Gänsemarkt or Jungfernstieg. The houses originally lining the street were designated with alphabetic letters rather than numbers, hence the name ABC-Strasse. Today, the street and its immediate vicinity provides virtually every urban amenity you would expect here: from corporate offices to creative media outfits, from coffee shops to pubs and fine dining restaurants, and from grocery stores to posh boutiques.
