Modernisation instead of new construction: more sustainable for the climate

The modernisation of existing office buildings is significantly more sustainable than a new build. The reason: when the building fabric is preserved, the so-called ‘grey energy’ is retained – i.e. the energy that has already been used for construction and materials. A new building, on the other hand, causes high CO₂ emissions and requires a lot of resources.
Energy-saving measures such as better insulation or modern heating systems and smart building automation can make existing buildings efficient and sustainable – usually faster, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than a completely new building.
In addition to contemporary office buildings, the premium-properties portfolio also includes numerous historical buildings, some of which are listed, some of which we have been modernising regularly for decades and constantly upgrading to a contemporary technical level. In this sense, sustainability is firmly rooted in our DNA.
